Day - 15
Mono-Tasking Is My Superpower. And It Could Be Yours Too.

This past weekend, during a casual chat with my son, I was reminded of a quiet habit that has helped me more than any productivity hack ever has:

I am a mono-tasker.

Sounds old-school? Maybe.
But in a world obsessed with hustle and speed, choosing to do one thing at a time has been a game-changer in my journey. Especially now, as I build my solo consulting practice.

One Focus. One Task. Better Results.

Like most of us in business, I have tried both sides of the coin.

I have juggled emails during meetings.
I have jumped between sales calls and strategy decks.
I have even prided myself at one point for how many tabs I could keep open, literally and mentally.

But time and again, I have seen that deep, focused, uninterrupted work always wins.

When I mono-task:

1. My work quality improves
2. My thinking is sharper
3. I make fewer mistakes
4. And most importantly, I enjoy the process

Why Multi-Tasking Is Not a Badge of Honour

Let us be honest. Multi-tasking is often just rapid task-switching and our brains are not wired for that.

What feels like productivity is often just distraction in disguise.
You answer an email halfway, jump into a WhatsApp group, start a proposal, pick up a call, and by the end of the hour, you have started everything but finished nothing.

As business owners, especially in Gujarat’s fast-paced MSME landscape, focus is a rare competitive advantage.

The Science Agrees

Studies show that multi-tasking can reduce productivity by up to 40%.
And it increases stress, fatigue and errors.

If you run a factory, an agency, a consultancy or any small business: This matters.
Your decisions impact teams, timelines and clients. You cannot afford diluted focus.

Practical Tips I Follow (and Teach My Son!)

While I am still on my mission to convert my son to the mono-tasking camp, here are a few things I have found helpful:

1. Block 90-minute focus slots: No notifications. One task. Full energy.
2. Pair light tasks: Walk and listen to a podcast. Commute and catch up on industry news.
3. Close tabs, literally: Keep only one browser tab open for the task at hand.
4. Use physical cues: A sticky note that says "One thing at a time" can do wonders.

From My Desk to Yours

Whether you are a solopreneur, running a small team, or scaling a manufacturing unit… Remember:

You don’t need to do everything at once.
You just need to do the right thing with full focus.
