Day 22: AI Isn’t Coming. It Is Already Here. And It Is Redrawing The Business Map.
23rd May 2025
Hemang Patel
Over the past month, I have had dozens of conversations with founders across industries, from manufacturing units
to service firms to exporters in Gujarat.
No matter the sector, one theme keeps surfacing:
AI, automation and agent-based tools are no longer just buzzwords. They are rewiring how we build, grow and run
businesses.
The Hard Truth Behind the Hype
Strip away the tech jargon, and what is really driving these conversations are uncomfortable realities:
1. Lead generation is getting harder and more expensive.
2. Sales cycles are shrinking, leaving less room to nurture deals.
3. Processes feel heavier as work that used to flow now gets stuck in inefficiencies.
4. Teams are stretched thin and juggling more with fewer hands.
5. Clients demand more, faster, cheaper, flawless and with penalties for even the smallest deviation.
And while this is happening, your competitors, quietly or loudly, are moving fast.
They are embedding AI into their operations, products, customer service and decision-making.
And it is working.
Where Founders Stand Right Now
From what I have observed in Gujarat’s MSME landscape and beyond:
1. 20% are all-in: Testing tools, implementing them and learning daily.
2. 30% are taking steady steps: Onboarding AI-driven solutions, rethinking workflows and upgrading processes.
3. 40% are dabbling: Experimenting here and there but still unsure how to start or where to focus.
3. 10% are doing nothing: Assuming this is just a passing trend.
The reality?
For that last 10% and even for the hesitant 40%, this is not a “wait-and-see” moment anymore.
The Blunt Truth
AI and automation have wiped out the edge once held by traditional monopolies and niche businesses.
The playing field is now level.
1. Barriers to entry have never been lower.
2. Small, nimble players can now compete with, and even beat, industry giants.
3. Those who do not adapt risk losing clients, revenue, relevance and eventually, existence.
The Pivot Is No Longer Optional
This is the perfect moment to act.
Not six months from now. Not “after the next big project.” Now.
First movers will:
1. Build leaner businesses with lower overheads.
2. Operate smarter with real-time data and insights.
3. Move faster because bottlenecks will be crushed by automation.
The rest?
They will be left wondering how they lost the lead to someone they did not even consider a competitor last year.
A Founder-to-Founder Question
If you are running a business today, be it a textile unit in Surat, a trading firm in Ahmedabad or an Agency in
Gandhinagar, here is my question for you:
What will you pivot, adopt or automate today to make sure someone else does not take your business tomorrow?
Because in this AI-driven era, it is not the biggest who win.
It is the fastest to adapt.
